Flower Personalities

Flowers are a delightful obsession for me. I see them as performers on stage demanding props and sets to support their acts. Each season brings a new cast of characters. Individual personalities run the gamut from comic to serious, beautiful to bizarre, youthfully exuberant to wistfully aged and more. They appear to be mimes of life’s dramas commanding our attention. I started working with rhododendrons and azaleas from our garden, continued through a fascination with orchids, both beautiful and bizzare and expanded to other flowers and plants with unusual characteristics and form.

Here are more variations on the theme, described in in Portfolio 2, of three elements: a background, a container and floral forms arranged in a centered composition. The images juxtaposed to each other enhance the idea.

These photographic images were produced with a digital camera. The subjects were digitally refined and printed on archival ultrachrome printer.
